It’s all in the genes…Italian that is. Grab the kids and head to one of Bali’s favorite gelato shops where you will find bins of unique flavors, a friendly staff wearing chocolate-colored baker’s hats and aprons, traditional Balinese baskets with cookies, biscotti, meringue and traditional Italian cakes, and plenty of seating for the whole clan.
Gaya Gelato was the brain child of an Italian couple who closed their gelateria in Italy for life in the tropics. Gaya is not your average ice cream shop…the design is understated, sheer minimalism with linear lines resembling a concrete cube. They offer hand-crafted gelato made from scratch using locally sourced ingredients such as organic eggs, nutmeg and cloves. Combined with exotic Balinese spices and fruits, the end result is mouthwatering flavors such as mango coconut, passionfruit, black rice and chocolate orange. The artisanal gelato is so tasty that they have a hard time keeping their bins full and ultimately sell out of many flavors before the end of the day.
Not only are the homemade waffle cones to die for, but the unusual flavors melt on your tongue causing your taste buds to want more.
Anyone big or small who loves the taste of ice cream, yogurt or gelato!
The staff all welcome you with big smiles and happily give tastes on spoons, not the tiny, barely-there wooden ones you usually get at ice-cream shops. Gaya also makes home deliveries and they sell party-packs of gelato.
