The legendary Woo Cheong Pawn Shop in Wan Chai, previously the stomping ground of The Pawn, has been reborn as the dazzling Sophia Loren House, a four-story Italian dining and entertainment destination.
This revamped space ushers in a new era, celebrating the effervescent “dolce vita” of 1960s Rome—a vibe immortalized by the legendary director Federico Fellini.
For a laid-back dining experience, hit up the ground-floor Pizzeria. Here, pizzas are so impossibly thin they’re sliced right at your table with a dramatic snip of scissors! Dive into fresh, homemade pizzas, nibble on delightful cicchetti (those irresistible Italian small bites), and swoon over some of the creamiest burrata we’ve ever tasted.
Ascend to the first floor where Casa Sophia Loren offers a more opulent dining affair. This glam eatery presents a refined Italian seafood menu that nods to the beloved flavors of Naples—cherished by both the iconic Sophia Loren and co-founder of the restaurant, the entrepreneur-politician Luciano Cimmino. Opt for a seat on the expansive Italian-style terrazzo to soak in the vibrant scenes of Johnston Road, or snag a spot at the cozy seafood counter to watch the chefs at work. The menu boasts lavish seafood platters like the Plateau Sophia Loren and the Deluxe Seafood Platter, crafted by chef Valentino Ugolini, formerly of Italian restaurant Ciak in Landmark. Pasta enthusiasts will revel in homemade delights such as traditional spaghetti with clams or the creative burrata ravioli with eggplant cream. Don’t miss the signature Milanese-style amberjack among other delectable main courses.
Post-dinner, venture up to The Stage for an evening of spirited libations and toe-tapping tunes from their live band. And keep your eyes peeled for the launch of Pellicola, their in-house cinema and lounge—details coming soon right here!
