Visit The Abandoned ‘Ghost Island’ In Sai Kung, Hong Kong

Come visit the amazing abandoned ‘Ghost Island’ at Yim Tin Tsai, Hong Kong. This tiny wild island lets you explore through hikes, fishing trips, and cultural visits with one of the remaining Hakka villagers. You can find it off of the Sai Kung Peninsula and reach it via a ferry direct from the pier in Sai Kung. Explore overgrown forests and a few streets and the well-preserved, 19th-century St. Joseph’s Chapel!  Walk around the abandoned village houses and community buildings which were left to decay in the 1960s after Hakka villagers moved off the island.

There is a regular ferry to get to the island, a heritage trail, homewares, and ceramics museum, and renovated Hakka ancestral homes. More fun? The Salt Pans they used in the 1800s through the 1990s are now being restored to revive the old process of collecting salt.
