Autism-Friendly Mall Introduces Calm Room

The Sunway Putra Mall is Malaysia’s first autism-friendly mall with its very own Calm Room designed especially for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The mall currently offers two Calm Room to cater to the needs of the autism community, especially parents who need some privacy and quiet space to be able to enjoy a stress-free shopping experience. To access the rooms, one must register as an Autsome member as the room uses a facial recognition system for entry. Autsome members who sign up will receive a welcome kit consisting of car sticker and wrist bands.

The Calm Room is equipped with soothing elements such as powder blue walls and fiber optic warm lights in the shape of clouds while an essential oil diffuser releases a gentle, relaxing scent. The room consists of a Lounge Area for parents, while the Calm Area is equipped with bean bags, throw pillows and a weighted blanket. The Art & Reading Corner offers a cozy nook to read, play jigsaw puzzles, doodle and more. There’s also a Sensory Wall with textured collage and a Sensory Play Area with engaging toys and musical instrument. The Calm Rooms are located at Level 3 and Lower Ground of the mall.
