Groundbreaking Therapies
WINGS was started by a mother, Julia, and her special needs son, Jake, in 2017. Jake was diagnosed with an ultra-rare genetic mutation (NACC1), which affects Jake’s ability to walk, talk and live a life of independence. He was also born with congenital cataracts in both his eyes. By the time he was just four months old, he was having approximately 1,000 seizures a day and missed his initial milestones. It was then that Julia was told that her child might never walk, talk or gain independence.
This inspired Julia and Jake’s 10-year journey across the globe in search for solutions, and opened their eyes to breakthrough therapies not available in Asia, such as the Intensive Model of Therapy (IMOT) framework, Suit Therapy, Cuevas Medek Exercises and Dynamic Movement Intervention.
Knowing there were kids like Jake back home who deserved the chance to experience these treatments, they decided to sell all their belongings to start WINGS and bring these therapies to other kids in Southeast Asia.
